Amber Valley Clean Ups
Details of completed Clean Up projects in Amber Valley. See also "More Information" for pictures from the different projects:
Ironville
Following consultation with the Parish Council, Residents Association and households in the area, a clean up weekend took place in Ironville on the 28th and 29th July 2007
This included the removal of household waste and a clean up of a youth club site by Community Payback teams from Probation Service. Thirty three skips of rubbish and twenty one fridges were removed. The tidy up of the youth club site continued into the following week.
Langley Mill
A clean up weekend took place in Langley Mill on the 11 and 12th August 2007. The Tom Norman Memorial Gardens and Queen Street Recreation Ground were also cleaned up and greatly improved. New signs were erected at the Acorn Centre, with the owners of the centre planning replacement fencing and new gates as a result of the clean up. The streets between Queen Street Recreation Ground and the Tom Norman Memorial Gardens were litter picked by volunteers.
Public consultation over the weekend also showed there was overwhelming support for a planning application to convert part of the car park into a play area.
Somercotes
A Clean Up occured at the end of July. This was followed by a Dreamscheme project which saw children working under the direction of housing association staff during July and August 2007. This paved the way for the development of an area of ground formerly known as “the Dump” to be converted into a multi-age group leisure facility. The area has been made more accessible by installing a limestone footpath, clearing an area for ball games and installing benches.
Amber Valley Community Safety Partnerships, Amber Valley Housing, Derbyshire Constabulary, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue, Groundwork, Probation and the Community Volunteer Service have all been involved in the clean ups.
