Grangewood

The weekend of 27th and 28th June 2007 saw Grangewood residents and partner agency staff take part in a clean up of the estate, with over 15 tonnes of rubbish, 14 fridges and just under half a tonne of other white goods & metal being removed. Long term improvements to the public realm in the area are planned.

The Grangewood project, which includes working with young people from the area, was chosen as it is one of the two residential pilot areas for the Safer Chesterfield Project. Previously the area suffered high levels of anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping.

Groundwork Creswell have utilised their “Breakthrough” project at Parkside School, which aims to raise awareness of how individual actions contribute to the environment. These young people, who have either been excluded or are at risk of exclusion, have carried out clean ups, conservation work and small landscaping schemes.

Middlecroft, Top Pitch

The Top Pitch area at Middlecroft is being developed. This includes rubbish removal, demolition of derelict garages, replacement of street signs, tidying of gardens, replacement fencing and the redevelopment of the overall playing area. A Celebration Day was held at the end of September 2007.
