Long Eaton, West Park

Following on from consultation with the ‘Friends of West Park’ group, the 13th to 19th August 2007 saw a blitz on West Park, situated in the centre of Long Eaton.

The week long activity, which followed a clean up and litter pick by local children’s football teams and other volunteers, saw the removal of over two hundred incidents of graffiti and repairs to lighting, fencing and seating being carried out by the District Council. Local residents and members of the group had highlighted graffiti and damage as a cause for concern which created a fear of crime.

The success of the activity was celebrated at the ‘Summer Sound’ event held in the park on 19th August 2007.

Long Eaton, St. James Park Estate

Similar issues were also addressed on the neighbouring estate, with around one hundred incidents of graffiti removed from private and public property. Members of the local Neighbourhood Watch, the Police and even someone whose previous offending had included graffiti on the estate joined forces to remove the unwanted ‘art work’. Work to repair broken fences, windows, seating and litter bins also took place.

Ilkeston - Larklands / Gallows

Ilkeston’s Gallows Playing Field was given a new look in November 2007 thanks to a clean up which saw graffiti removed from the site.

The Gallows play equipment was cleaned of graffiti by a team of volunteers which included representatives from Erewash Community Safety Partnership, Derbyshire Constabulary, Erewash Borough Council’s Pride in Erewash campaign, Councillor Michelle Booth and local residents.

Erewash Community Safety Partnership worked with the public to identify two areas that would benefit from having an autumn clean – and in Ilkeston the Larklands / Gallows areas were targeted for some tender loving care with a two-day clean-up on 16th and 17th November 2007.
