Community Safety Week 2008

It’s Community Safety Week in Derbyshire County Council libraries from 18 to 22 February . . .

You can get advice on staying safer at home and in your community and find out how we are working together to reduce crime.

The week-long event has been organised and supported by the county council, Derbyshire Police, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and other organisations working to make Derbyshire even safer.

A host of fun events and activities are planned during the half-term holidays to help people of all ages stay safe at home and in their neighbourhood.

A launch will take place at Newbold Library on Monday, 18 February 2008 at 2.00pm. Events and activities across Derbyshire will include:

  • 20,000 bookmarks promoting www.saferderbyshire.gov.uk and the library service will be handed out during the week.

  • 1,500 resources packs, containing information leaflets and giveaways, will be available free to families in libraries, mobile library vans and Buxton Museum.

  • Win an iPod Shuffle or £40 voucher by entering our Community Safety Quiz.  Download a copy below and return your completed form to your local library by Friday 21 March 2008.  Answers can be found in the resources packs, on displays in selected libraries and on www.saferderbyshire.gov.uk.

  • 500 personal attack alarms are up for grabs – the first 500 quiz sheets pulled out of a hat will receive one

  • Displays and partner agencies will be on hand in eight selected libraries across Derbyshire to give advice on how not to become a victim of crime.  Partner agencies include the Police, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Community Safety Partnerships, Youth Service, Trading Standards, domestic abuse practitioners, Neighbourhood Watch, Road Safety, and Victim Support. Target libraries include Ripley, Clowne, Newbold, Bakewell, Sandiacre, Glossop, Killamarsh and Swadlincote.

  • Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) will be available onboard mobile library vans across Derbyshire. Areas to be visited include North Wingfield, Hathersage, Aston-on-Trent, Grassmoor, Darley Dale, Barlborough, Bradwell, Castleton and Youlgreave.

  • Activities for families, younger and older people will include face painting, story time, games, plays and videos. Fire engines will be visiting Newbold, Ashbourne, Sandiacre and Chapel-en-le-Frith Libraries.

  • Internet access will be available for those who wish to browse a range of community safety related websites. A list of useful websites is available to download below.

  • Download a reading list below and choose a book to read from a multitude of different titles with links to community safety.

  • Borrow a Property Marking Kit (available at most libraries).
