Chesterfield CSP - What We Do

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 has made it the job of local councils and the Police, with the support of many other organisations, to keep up-to-date with local crime problems and work together to tackle them.

The Chesterfield Community Safety Partnership was established to bring these bodies together to deliver local crime reducing initiatives. The partnership includes representatives from:

Why we work together

The days when people thought that preventing crime was the Police’s job and no one else’s have long gone. As we’ve found out more about the causes of crime and about the best ways of preventing it, it has become clear that cutting crime and tackling the causes of crime needs to involve a range of organisations. They bring different experiences and expertise to the job of reducing crime.

The Partnership recognises that crime is a top priority for our communities in Chesterfield. In 2005, the Derbyshire MORI Survey found that 54 per cent of respondents felt that low levels of crime was the most important factor in making an area good to live in.

In order to ensure that we are tackling the crime types that Chesterfield borough residents feel are the most important we complete a ‘crime and disorder audit’ every three years. Using the data we have available this identifies what the main crime issues are in the Borough. We then consult with the community to find out what you consider to be the priority issues to tackle and write a three year strategy which reflects our findings about local crime and disorder.
