High Peak Clean Ups
Details of completed Clean Up projects in High Peak:
New Mills
A Clean Up around the town centre took place in October 2007. Areas focussed on included the Torrs, the bus station, the leisure centre and Lower Rock Street. Activity included graffiti removal in fifteen hotspot areas, installation of lighting in The Torrs, new picnic benches, new bins, two dog waste bins, three finger sign posts, hand rail provision and tree removal on the Sett Valley trail.
Pupils from New Mills Primary School tidied the Torrs top area and Derbyshire County Council’s Countryside Service worked with local residents to clean up the Sett Valley trail installing bird boxes and creating sculptures.
High Peak Community Housing, High Peak Borough Council, the Police, local Housing Associations, the Youth Service, the Youth Offending Team, a local Church group, Countryside Service, the Parish Council and Groundwork were all involved in the project.
Fairfield
Graffiti was removed from buildings, fences and the skate park in the Fairfield Clean Up. Residents were able to responsibly dispose of bulk waste with skips placed in four identified fly-tipping hotspots. Anti-fly tipping bollards will be installed. The elderly at a housing complex will also benefit from a safe seating area at the rear of their homes.
A Neighbourhood Day took place celebrating the work that has been done. This gave residents a chance to feed back to the agencies involved in a relaxed atmosphere.
Organisations involved in the project included High Peak Community Housing, High Peak Borough Council, the Police, Residents of Fairfield association, local Housing Associations, the Youth Service, the Youth Offending Team, the Probation Service, a local Church group, Countryside Service, the Parish Council, University of Derby, Manchester & District Housing and Groundwork.
