The Force consists of four territorial Divisions at Alfreton, Buxton, Chesterfield and Derby. Each Division is split into a number of geographically based sections headed by an Inspector. Each section works closely with the local communities and consultation with them leads to the annual development of a policing plan for their area. At the heart of the Constabulary are the Headquarters situated in a rural setting on the outskirts of Ripley. The complex provides excellent facilities and includes the Force training and learning centre, which organises a variety of courses for staff.
We have a national reputation for excellence in a number of fields. In particular, the Derbyshire Constabulary has pioneered the role of DNA testing in crime investigation and our policies to deal with incidents of domestic and family violence are well respected and widely adopted. We were granted the Investor in People award in December 1997 as a result of the investment made in the training and development of the people who work within the organisation.
The Derbyshire Constabulary is community policing at its best. We are very much a forward looking organisation aiming to improve our service, not only to the public, but also to our own staff. We continue working hard to achieve our vision of providing an effective, value for money and caring police service with a national reputation for excellence. In recognition of our achievements to date, the Derbyshire Constabulary has been awarded the Charter Mark for the quality of service provided to all of our customers. We are Second time winners of both Investor in People and Charter Mark awards.
