Derbyshire County Council provides a wide range of services through six main departments: Chief Executive's, Children & Younger Adults, Corporate Resources, Environmental Services, Cultural & Community Services and Older Adults. 

Derbyshire County Council activities touch every aspect of local life: schools and life long learning; care for children in need, older and disabled people; roads and public transport, libraries and trading standards. Add to this waste disposal, emergency planning, job creation, support for local businesses, footpaths and country parks as well as land use the extensive nature of the service is obvious and the potential to impact on community safety is vast. The council spends over £563 million on providing these services and is committed to providing them effectively and efficiently.

Community Safety Unit

The Community Safety Unit comprises 13 members of staff and is supported by the Chief Officer responsible for Community Safety.

The main functions of the Community Safety Unit are to:

• provide leadership and/or support to countywide community safety activities through Safer Derbyshire
• provide strategic support and advice to the eight district-based Community Safety Partnerships
• support County Council service departments to ensure they are meeting the requirements of the Crime and Disorder Act (1998)
• deliver specific community safety projects in line with the Local Area Agreement priorities
