Police in Ashbourne help organise film screenings for families and youngsters

A cinema project launched to give teenagers in Ashbourne something to do is holding two more screenings.

The monthly film screenings were launched in October when residents told local police officers that teenagers in the town did not have enough to do.

Inspector Glynn Bevan, head of policing in Ashbourne, the Mayor of Ashbourne, Councillor Steve Bull and the chair of the town's Empire Ballroom, Margaret Ford came together to organise film screenings.

A film for teenagers is now screened on one Friday night each month, while a film for families is shown one Saturday morning.

At 7.30pm on Friday, February 22, youngsters can watch St Trinian's at the ballroom.

Families will be invited to watch Bee Movie at 11am on Saturday, February 23.

Insp Bevan said: "This project is going from strength to strength. In the past, if youngsters from the town wanted to watch a film, they had to travel to places like Derby because we don't have a cinema in Ashbourne."

Tickets cost £3 and can be bought on the door or by calling 01335 300140.
