“Behave or be banned”
“Behave or Be Banned” and “Banned From One – Banned From All” are the clear messages from licensees in Chesterfield to revellers in the town who are making their Pubwatch group the most high-tech in the county.
“People think that Pubwatch has disappeared,” group Secretary and Landlord of Chandlers Bar Roger Butler said. “We want to make them aware it is still here and very much active – and in the near future it will be even more efficient with the introduction of a member-only website.”
The new high-tech system was explained to licensees at a meeting held at Livingstone’s this week (Tuesday Nov 28) attended by around 30 of them as well as Community Safety Inspector Ian Palfreyman.
The website, expected to go live early in the New Year, will enable details and images of people banned to be accessed electronically by Pubwatch members, making distribution of the information quicker and more reliable than ever before.
The site will also mean that members will be able to access relevant news and information regarding their industry easily.
Chesterfield will be the first town in Derbyshire to introduce an online Pubwatch system and its scheme is expected to be used a model of good practice in other parts of the county.
Members of the Pubwatch are keen to point out that until the online system is in place, the current method whereby details of banned people are circulated on paper, will continue to operate. Premises are also linked by radios, so details of any imminent problems can be passed on immediately.
Jane Randall, landlady of The Rutland and Chair of Chesterfield Pubwatch said: “The majority of town centre pubs have signed up to Pubwatch this year and we are confident news of the website will persuade the others.”
Julie Otter, Community Safety Officer with Chesterfield Community Safety Partnership which is supporting the Pubwatch scheme, said: “People coming for a night out in Chesterfield can feel assured that the pubs are working together and with other support agencies to take action against troublemakers to keep them out of town.
“People already subject to a ban should be aware that those bans are still in place and they will be included on the new website.”
Inspector Palfreyman added: “"I wholeheartedly support this scheme as it aims to make Chesterfield a safer place for people to visit whilst enjoying the nightlife and entertainment. We are actively working with the Chesterfield Pubwatch and will have access to areas of their website. This means we will be able to share information about incidents and trouble makers much more quickly and effectively."
