Half term activities for young people in Clay Cross

A climbing wall, cinema screening and football tournament are just some of the free activities Safer Neighbourhood Teams are holding for young people over half term.

The Parkhouse Safer Neighbourhood Team, which covers Clay Cross, Danesmoor, Holmegate and Pilsley, has organised the activities for children aged six to 16.

On Monday, February 18, children aged six to 10 are invited to St Barnabus Community Centre in Danesmoor between noon and 5pm to try out the climbing wall and watch a film on the big screen.

On Tuesday February 19, footballers from Chesterfield FC will give a helping hand to players at a five-a-side football tournament in Sharley Park.

The tournament runs between 11am and 3pm and there will be prizes for the winning team.

On Wednesday February 20, young people aged 11-16, can go to St Barnabus Community Centre between noon and 5pm to have a go on the climbing wall or watch a film.

PCSO David Green of the Parkhouse safer Neighbourhood Team said: "The main complaint we get when we talk to young people is that they have nothing to do in the evenings, weekends and school holidays.

"These activities give them a safe place to go, meet their friends and have fun."

Anyone who wants to attend any of the activities will need to have a consent form signed by a parent or guardian.

The forms are available from Clay Cross Police Station, any member of the Safer Neighbourhood Team on patrol, Sharley Park Centre or local youth clubs/groups.

Forms can also be signed on the day, but must be completed before children can take part.
