Horse owners urged to help tackle equestrian crime
Horse owners in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales are being urged to join groups that help combat equestrian crime.
Derbyshire police and horse owners across the county have set up Horsewatch groups to share information about suspicious incidents and equestrian crime.
Inspector Erika Green, based at Chapel-en-le-Frith, said: "We're looking for people to set up Horsewatch groups in their area, particularly in the areas of Matlock and Ashbourne.
"Horsewatch co-ordinators can do as little or as much as they like, but their main role is to pass on information about thefts of tack, horses or horse trailers to the police and to other horse owners in the area.
"They can report suspicious visitors or people who have been seen lurking around farms."
For more information about setting up or joining a Horsewatch group, call Insp Green on 0845 123 3333 or the county's Horsewatch co-ordinator Lesley Manger on 01773 831251.
