An operation to stop motorcycles riding through Peak District villages is proving to be successful.

Operation Blackbrook was launched in April to stop bikers riding through areas such as Taddington, Longstone Edge, Pilsley, Baslow, Eyam and Millers Dale.

Residents in these areas had complained of noise and pathway erosion caused by the motorcycles.

The operation involves police, residents, Derbyshire Dales District Council, Derbyshire County Council, The Peak District National Park Authority and local parish councils.

PC Kevin Lowe, of Tideswell Safer Neighbourhood Team, said he was pleased with the progress of the operation and that complaints of nuisance motorcycles have dropped since it was launched.

He said that many motorcyclists riding around the villages were found to be visitors from outside Derbyshire who did not know that some paths and tracks were restricted.

PC Lowe said: "We've had great success in Taddington with the introduction of information signs telling riders where they cannot go.

"We have seen a significant drop in resident complaints since the signs were put up.

"The operation is ongoing and we hope to see further success in the future."
