Boxing clever as Ozbox comes to Pinxton

Officers from Derbyshire police have recently started running the successful Ozbox scheme at Pinxton Youth Club.

Ozbox is a project run voluntarily by Chesterfield based police officers to encourage young people into boxing based fitness sessions.

The aim of Ozbox is to reduce anti-social behaviour by giving young people something to do in the evenings and taking them off the streets.

The classes have recently helped to reduce nuisance and disorder in South Normanton, where police received no calls for service on the evenings Ozbox was in town.

Ozbox started at Pinxton Youth Club on Thursday, 31st January (7pm - 9pm) and will run for four weeks. It will then move on to Aldercar at the end of April, with details to follow on this.

PC Jo Osbaldeston, the wife of Inspector Steve Osbaldeston who created Ozbox, said: "We really hope that local young people will take advantage of Ozbox as an opportunity to have fun, get fit and learn some new skills.

"If you would like to take part, all you need to do is have a consent form signed by a parent or guardian; the forms are available from Linda Piper at Pinxton Youth Club."
