Residents reassured about damage

Extra police and warden patrols and mobile CCTV are being used in two South Derbyshire communities after a series of criminal damage attacks which have left fences broken.

Properties in Swadlincote and Woodville have been affected, with those adjacent to alleyways a favourite target. Burton Road, Harebell Close and Hartshorne Road in Woodville and Belmont Street and Vicarage Gardens in Swadlincote have suffered the most damage.

Wooden panels have been snapped off the top of fences and others appear to have been kicked through at the bottom.

It is thought that the same people could be responsible for the crimes in each location and members of the public are now being urged to provide any information they have about the incidents or those responsible for them.

The Safer South Derbyshire Partnership has produced a leaflet making residents aware of the incidents and appealing for information; these have been delivered to properties in the areas concerned with the help of South Derbyshire CVS.

The Partnership’s Safer Communities Manager Chris Smith said: “We are appealing to residents to help us stop these crimes and also want to reassure them that everything possible is being done to catch those responsible.

"These attacks are criminal offences and when the perpetrator(s) are identified positive action will be taken against them by the police"

Anyone with information about the damage to the fences can either call the police non-emergency number – 0345 123 3333 or ring Crimestoppers, which they can do completely anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
