It is part of a county wide week-long programme of interactive events and initiatives from Sunday 15th June to Saturday 21st June to showcase and celebrate the work of Safer Neighbourhoods in Derbyshire.

The Safer Neighbourhoods programme is a multi-agency approach to creating safer places for people to live, work and enjoy the county. The initiative aims to deliver the right people, to the right places, to create neighbourhoods that are safe and feel safe.

To start the week, Buxton Safer Neighbourhood team is holding a stand at the annual Emergency Services Day, in the Pavilion Gardens on Sunday 15th June between 10.30am and 4pm for residents to meet their team, find out more about what they are doing in Buxton and to chat about issues affecting the local area.

On Thursday 19th June the teams are holding a crime prevention event at Trent Avenue Primary School, from 7pm where people can come along, meet the team and find out more about the best ways of keeping homes and property secure. They will also be security marking bikes and personal items.

Buxton Safer Neighbourhood Team's Sergeant Martin Mullis said: "The Safer Neighbourhood teams and all our partners have been working hard to keep our area a nicer, cleaner and safer place to live.

"We're becoming well established now in the community, but we would love more residents to come on board, meet us and find out more about what we do."

Over in Bakewell, the Safer Neighbourhood team will be on patrol at Bakewell Market to meet local people and chat about the work they are doing in the community. They are also attending the Neighbourhood Watch meeting at Wye Waters Tea Rooms on Granby Road, Bakewell, where there will be yet another a chance to meet the team, talk to the officers about any issues in the area and find out more about Neighbourhood Watch.

The New Mills and Hayfield Safer Neighbourhood Team will be celebrating their achievements at a crime prevention event at New Mills Market, Promenade, Tuesday 17th June 2008 from 11am until 3pm. Local people are being invited to come along, meet the team, find out more about the work they do and chat about any issues in the area.

They will also be giving crime prevention advice to ensure residents know about the best ways to keep their homes and property secure.

The week finally draws to a close on Saturday 21st June, when all the Safer Neighbourhood teams from across the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales join force to hold a fun finale at Hall Leys Park in Matlock.

It will be yet another chance for anyone who lives or works in the area to meet the teams and other partners involved. There will also be bouncy castles, face painting, and a football contest for youngsters.

The event will include Neighbourhood Watch, a Crime Prevention and also a Fire Service Stand. There will also be a chance for people to find out more about the Ringmaster and First Contact schemes running in the area.

Assistant Chief Constable Peter Goodman will also be at the event between 11am and 12pm to meet the teams and partners who have been working hard over the past few years.

Community Safety Inspector Tony Dales is helping to organise the event. He said: "We hope many people will join us for the special event. We're really proud of the achievements the Safer Neighbourhood partnerships have made and we'll be looking to celebrate those.

"It's also a great chance to meet new people and to spread the word about what we do."
