The search has begun for community heroes as Derbyshire County Council starts the hunt for Excellence in the Community award-winners.
21 June 2012
The council wants to hear about exceptional people, groups or organisations that have worked tirelessly:
The authority will be hosting a prestigious ceremony at the Devonshire Dome, Buxton, on Monday 15 October.
Individuals, groups, businesses, voluntary groups and charities that are improving the lives of others will be honoured at the awards, which are now in their sixth year.
Councillor Andrew Lewer, Leader of Derbyshire County Council, said: "It is right to recognise the outstanding contribution that those who volunteer make to our communities. They make a huge impact and deserve our thanks for their hard work.
"Please tell us about truly exceptional people who put the needs of others first and make a difference to their communities by making that extra effort which makes them stand out.
"Award winners will be people who have helped put Derbyshire on the map through outstanding personal achievement."
You can nominate someone today at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/excellenceawards (opens in a new window). Forms are also available in libraries.
The awards are open to anyone over 18 years of age - the council's Derbyshire Young Achiever's event recognises people under 18. Closing date for nominations is Friday 10 August.
