Respect

Respect is a concept introduced by the Government in January 2006.   Respect is something that the majority of people understand and the values include respect for others, their property and their privacy, civility, good manners and a recognition that everyone has responsibilities as well as rights.

Respect is a value – it is about all of us being considerate to the needs of others around us, being decent, honest and caring about the community as well as our own individual concerns. It is essential in creating sustainable communities where people feel safe, secure and happy to live.

Respect is about central government, local agencies, local communities and ultimately every citizen working together to build a society in which we can respect one another – where anti-social behaviour is rare and tackled effectively, and communities can live in peace together.
