Our Priorities

Anti-social Behaviour

Anti-social behaviour is a key issue for our communities as it has a major impact on quality of life. The Partnership is committed to reducing anti-social behaviour across the District and has developed an Anti-social Behaviour Strategy to help achieve this aim. This includes a range of tactics including education, prevention and enforcement.

We can use Acceptable Behaviour Contracts and Anti-Social Behaviour Orders to reduce the problems caused by a small number of individuals in our communities. We are also developing recreational opportunities for young people to engage them in positive activities, including a football league, mobile skate park, inflatable laser games and a climbing wall.

An anti-social behaviour hotline has also been introduced to make reporting cases of anti-social behaviour an easy and effective process.

Each year approximately 350 Year 6 students are invited to watch a thought-provoking play about anti-social behaviour. The drama challenges and informs young people about a range of issues including graffiti, litter, damaging property, bullying, drugs and racism.

Fear of Crime and Community Reassurance

Two mobile CCTV vans are in operation across the District to collect evidence, act as a deterrent and provide reassurance to the local community.

South Derbyshire Liberation Day is an annual event for the older and more vulnerable residents of the District.  It is designed to offer the over-50s a day of fun and entertainment together with the chance to find out about services, support and advice available to them, including community safety advice.

Property Crime

Safer Homes is a mobile joinery service working to improve security of homes that have been burgled. It works by installing additional door and window locks and other appropriate equipment. As well as victims of burglary the scheme will also install security and safety equipment in the homes of the elderly and vulnerable.

The Partnership provides funding for projects to distribute leaflets and poster campaigns aimed at motorists. We also run seasonal initiatives to discourage motorists from leaving items on display in their vehicles.

Substance Misuse

Drug and alcohol misuse is a major cause of crimes such as burglary and vehicle crime, so we are working to increase access to treatment services. The Partnership also works with Trading Standards and runs campaigns to tackle underage drinking and the purchase of alcohol for under 18s.

Violent Crime

Campaigns are run to reduce incidents of violence as a result of alcohol. The Safer South Derbyshire Partnership co-ordinates the work of the South Derbyshire Domestic Abuse Forum. The Forum is a multi-agency group of both statutory and voluntary organisations, who are working together to address issues of domestic abuse.
