Halloween - No Trick or Treat

A poster designed to discourage "trick or treaters" is now available on the Safer Derbyshire website ...

We are approaching the end of October, the time when it has become traditional for young people to go ‘trick or treating’.

For many people, trick or treat visits can be an unnerving experience and at this time of year residents often face a stream of unexpected callers on their doorstep in the dark, wearing costumes and masks.

To help those who do not wish to be disturbed by trick or treaters, Derbyshire Constabulary have produced posters for people to display in their front room windows or doors.

Through schools and the b_line website, we have asked young people to respect the wishes of any resident displaying one of the ‘No Trick or Treat posters’.

We don't want to spoil people's fun at Halloween, but would like to encourage both children and parents to act responsibly and also be mindful of the personal safety issues associated with calling on strangers.

By visiting family or friends instead, trick or treaters can still enjoy Halloween without the associated dangers or increasing the number of calls made to the police.

Posters can be obtained from police enquiry offices, libraries and local Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators.   Police Beat Officers will also be distributing posters to a variety of community venues within their local area.

The poster can also be downloaded below under "More Information"
