Here are some tips to prevent crime for businesses:

  • carry out an analysis of risks to identify any weaknesses you may have
  • Go to your local police Crime Prevention Officer for advice
  • Keep up good housekeeping - keep paperwork safe and cars clean and tidy, as well as the property looking tidy to reduce vandalism
  • If you have valuable items, keep them safe, in a locked cabinet or a safe for example
  • If you have CCTV already, ensure tapes are changed and labelled well in case they are required
  • property mark items such as laptops, computers, satellite navigations systems and mobile phones.
  • Ensure your IT is up to date with virus protection, and back up your data safely
  • Ensure that visitors to your business sign in and are expected, not only for fire safety, but so that you have a record of who and when people came to your business.
  • Invest in good quality perimieter fencing
  • Ensure your external lighting is effectve, not only to deter from crime but for your employees to feel safer.

Business crime includes violence in the workplace, fraud, sales of stolen goods and substance misuse.
