Summary of Organisation

The duty of the prison service is to effectively execute the sentences of the court so as to reduce re-offending and protect the public by:
(1) holding those committed by the courts in a safe, decent and healthy environment
(2) reducing crime by providing constructive regimes which address offending behaviour,
(3) improving education and work skills, and
(4) promoting law-abiding behaviour in custody and after release.

Her Majesty’s Prison Service’s purpose is pursued within the context of their own Framework Agreement and within the framework set by the Criminal Justice System as a whole.

Colin organises school visits about life inside prison and about the dangers of misusing drugs.

However, due to the current staffing shortages that are affecting all UK prisons, Colin is unable to organise any school visits during this time.
