Safer Internet Day – 9 February 2021

Safer Internet Day: Together for a better internet.

Posted on 5 February 2021

The internet has an amazing range of information and opportunities online, but how do we stay safe and separate fact from fiction?

As we spend more time indoors, it’s only natural to be spending more time on our phones, laptops and tablets, which increases our risk of becoming a victim of cybercrime.

On Tuesday 9 February it’s Safer Internet Day and we’re backing the national campaign to increase awareness on how we can all use the internet safely and responsibly.

So, here are some ideas about how you can make yourself, and others, safer online:-

  • You can take our Digital MOT to help protect yourselves from all aspects of online fraud and cybercrime. It's free and takes just 5 mins to complete.
  • It’s not always easy to spot false information, so use the SHARE checklist to make sure that you are not contributing to the spread of harmful content.

If you want help using the internet and technology, there is free help available for Derbyshire residents:-

  • Derbyshire Libraries offer digital skills support (currently over the telephone). To make an appointment, tel: 01629 533444 or email:
  • Rural Action Derbyshire have trained ‘Cyber Buddy’ volunteers who offer one-to-one digital support tel: 01629 592970 or email:
